The San Diego Squirrels Club is a new community for adults with ADHD in the San Diego region. This is being done through “in-person” meetings and events, online meetings to discuss topics of interest, and this network. Our goal is to build an “interconnected community” of adults with ADHD in the San Diego region we can jointly share information and knowledge, learn, grow, and have fun. We started our “in person” meeting last year – meeting mostly in local taverns and coffee shops, and also had several online meetings to discuss topics of interest.
This is online network is our newest initiative. The world’s first “ADHD friendly social network (we hope). Possible it will be even better than that, and we can teach the normal folks a thing or two.
This network will feature an “interest-based” social network that will allow you to find other adults with ADHJD in this region who have the same interests as you. This is intentionally lightweight. The profiles here show only your interests, drawn from a fairly comprehensive list, and a small profile photo. There is no photo sharing but you profile will also have links to your own photo gallery or anything other personal or business site. The site also uses geolocation technology, but not geolocation itself to help members connect with each other. Since “where you live” matters when making new friends, or just meeting people with shared interests, the zip code field on your profile lets members know the general part of town you’re in, but we do not use “proximity tracking”.
We are also designing this site to be “ADHD friendly”. One innovation we hope will work is a new kind of post we call a “blurt” – like a short blog post but about anything you want. This post will go on your profile and while people can comment on it will be under your control so there won’t be a “stream” as such. We want to keep the site engaging but as much as possible “drama free”. Also, unlike most social networks, it is not our goal to keep your here clicking around – it is our goal to help you meet like minded people, exchange contact information when appropriate, and meet in the real works.
This site is in its early stages and is just starting alpha testing in the San Diego region. At this time, we will not be able to have accounts for those outside this region until we get a little farther along in our development. If you are in the San Diego region, and would like to help us beta test this network, feel free to register for this site.
